Asantehene vows to bring lasting peace to Bawku and its environs.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has promised that peace will soon return to the embattled area and reiterated his commitment to ending the longstanding conflict in Bawku.
His comments follow efforts to mediate between the feuding factions that were temporarily put on hold due to the complexities surrounding the chieftaincy dispute that has fueled tensions in the Upper East Region.
Speaking at a meeting with a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed his confidence in the ongoing mediation efforts, highlighting the vital role of traditional authorities in conflict resolution.
"In order to develop, we need peace. It is my responsibility and that of the traditional authorities to ensure that there is peace everywhere. In order to allow the government to function in peace, we thus make sure that we resolve issues when there are conflicts everywhere.
The protracted Bawku conflict, which has seen several outbreaks of violence over the years, remains a security concern for Ghana, particularly given its proximity to Burkina Faso.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II committed to keep engaging with opposing factions and to do everything in his power to bring about a lasting resolution.
