Check Out: Review of Internet Data Prices Takes Effect on July 1, 2025
The three (3) major telecommunications companies in the Country; AirtelTigo, Telecel, and MTN have announced a significant increase in internet data price.
Taking effective Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, a significant overhaul of internet data values and prices is set to take effect, promising enhanced benefits for consumers across Ghana's telecommunications sector.
This major reform comes as a directive from Hon. Sam Nartey George, signaling a proactive step towards addressing public concerns over data affordability and accessibility.
The impending changes will see various network providers adjusting their data bundle offerings, largely in favor of the consumer.
AirtelTigo is poised to implement a 10% increase across all its existing data bundles.
More specifically, their popular GH¢400 bundle, which currently offers 195GB, will be significantly boosted to 236GB.
This substantial increment aims to provide more value and cater to the growing data consumption needs of its subscribers.
Telecel is also making a bold move to enhance its data packages. Their GH¢400 bundle, previously offering 90GB, is set to experience a dramatic increase, expanding to an impressive 250GB.
This more than doubling of data for the same price point positions Telecel as a highly competitive option for heavy data users, potentially reshaping market dynamics.
Not to be left behind, MTN Ghana, a dominant player in the market, will also be introducing a 15% increase across its data offerings.
Crucially, MTN is also restoring its much-demanded GH¢399 bundle to its original capacity of 214GB.
This restoration is expected to be met with widespread approval from its loyal customer base, who have long advocated for the return of this particular bundle's value.
These reforms, effective from the first day of July next year, are a direct response to mounting public pressure and a clear indication of the government's commitment to ensuring that internet access remains affordable and robust for all citizens.
Hon. Sam Nartey George's directive underscores a strategic effort to balance the interests of consumers with the operational realities of private telecommunication investors, ensuring that any policy implementation is done in consultation with necessary stakeholders.
The collective adjustments by these major telcos are anticipated to foster a more competitive environment, ultimately benefiting the end-user with more generous data allowances and improved value for money.
