Bawku Unrest: 2025 BECE Graduate And Three Others Shot Dead

Based on GTV Ghana reports on Monday, 14th July, 2025, a young girl who just completed the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has tragically been shot and killed in Bawku. Three others were also killed.

This incident occurred during a recent attack that has left the town in fear and pain. According to reports, the girl was among four people who lost their lives in the renewed violence on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The girl’s name has not yet been revealed, but many people in the community say she was a brilliant student with dreams of going to senior high school. Her family and friends are heartbroken over the loss.

This latest shooting is part of the ongoing Bawku conflict that has claimed many lives in recent years. It is mainly caused by a chieftaincy disagreement and has now grown worse with the involvement of weapons and violent attacks. In this recent incident, three other people were also shot dead, bringing more sorrow to families in the area.

The Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has called for peace and calm. He said the government is taking the situation seriously and is working with security forces to investigate the attack. “No one should take the law into their own hands,” he warned.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has condemned the actions of the military and other forces involved in the conflict. He said the violence is destroying innocent lives and must stop immediately.

As the people of Bawku mourn this young girl and the others who died, many Ghanaians are calling for stronger action to end the conflict. Parents are worried for the safety of their children, especially those in school.
