Cedi Weakens Against Major Currencies as Bank of Ghana Releases Daily Exchange Rates for July 11, 2025
The Bank of Ghana has released the interbank foreign exchange rates for Friday, July 11, 2025. These rates represent the average values used by commercial banks for foreign currency transactions at the close of business on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
The Ghanaian cedi has depreciated further against major international currencies, according to the latest exchange rates published by the Bank of Ghana for Friday, July 11, 2025.
The figures show a noticeable decline in the cedi’s value compared to Thursday’s rates. These are the official interbank rates used by commercial banks after trading closed on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
As of Friday morning, the US dollar is being bought at GHS10.3948 and sold at GHS10.4052, marking an increase from Thursday’s rates of GHS10.3448 (buying) and GHS10.3552 (selling), indicating a clear weakening of the cedi.
The British Pound Sterling is now being bought at GHS14.1047 and sold at GHS14.1199, up from Thursday’s buying rate of GHS14.0514 and selling rate of GHS14.0665.
Similarly, the Euro is being bought at GHS12.1488 and sold at GHS12.1608, reflecting an increase from the previous day’s rates of GHS12.1091 (buying) and GHS12.1200 (selling).
As of Thursday, July 9, 2025, the Ghanaian Cedi remains relatively stable around ₵10.40 to the US dollar.
The rise in these exchange rates means it now takes more cedis to purchase foreign currencies, a development that could impact the cost of imported goods and services in the country.
Ghanaians who depend on foreign exchange for business, travel, or remittances may face increased financial strain. Analysts often attribute such depreciation to factors such as high demand for foreign currency, economic uncertainty, and limited supply of the US dollar and other major currencies.
The Bank of Ghana is expected to keep a close eye on the situation and may intervene if the cedi continues to slide in the coming days.
