The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the 2025/2026 Academic Calendar for Basic Schools—including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools (JHS).
In a letter signed and released on July 11, 2025, by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of Schools and Instructions Division, GES directed all Regional Directors of Education to ensure smooth implementation of the approved schedule within their various regions.
In the new calendar, the academic year will be divided into three terms.
- The first term will commence on September 2, 2025, and run for 15 weeks, concluding with a vacation period.
- The second term will follow, lasting 12 weeks, beginning on January 18, 2026, and ending on April 3, 2026.
- The third term will resume on April 20, 2026, and will extend until the end of the academic year on July 11, 2026.
However, the calendar also incorporates public holidays and specific mid-term breaks. Schools are scheduled to observe a mid-term break from October 31 to November 3, 2025, ensuring that students have necessary downtime during the academic year.
