We Will Not Service Policemen Again,— Ashàwo Girls Announces

The Pokuase Union of Prostitutes (sex workers’) has issued a public statement announcing that its members will no longer offer services to police officers in Ghana, citing grievances over continued mistreatment and aggressive raids.

According to the statement, the group stressed disappointment that despite regularly engaging with police clients, they have not received any leniency or protection.

However, they claim that they are still treated harshly and frequently hostilely by police officer.

“We have decided to withhold our services from police officers as a form of protest,” the communique reads. “We want them to understand that their conduct has consequences. This is a step to push back against the violent tactics used during recent raids.”

The group urges similar unions and individuals in the sex work industry across the country to take a unified stand, aiming to send a stronger message to authorities about the treatment of marginalized communities.

The announcement comes after rising tensions between informal workers and security agencies, with advocacy groups calling for more humane engagement from law enforcement.

We also advised all other prostitute groups to desist from offering their "tokro abodwese." to any police officer
