The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the National Ambulance Service (NAS) are set for a strategic partnership in the training and deployment of 6,000 community medical first responders across the country.
During the ceremony held at the YEA headquarters in Accra, acting YEA Chief Executive Officer, Malik Basintale, announced that, the initiative aligns core mandate of creating job opportunities for young Ghanaians while supporting NAS in enhancing the country’s emergency response system. It is expected to not only provide employment but also save lives, as prompt first aid can significantly improve survival rates in critical situations.
Mr. Basintale also credited former NAS CEO, Dr. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah, for playing a key role in bringing the initiative to fruition.
Speaking at the event, the acting CEO of NAS, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, stressed the importance of the partnership, noting that it comes at a time when the service requires additional manpower to improve emergency response times.
This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
