Teacher trainees receive five-month allowances nationwide
Government disburses GHS 67.6 million in five-month teacher trainee allowances to over 30,000 students across 37 public colleges.
The Government of Ghana has disbursed GHS 67,671,080 to cover five months of teacher trainee allowances for 30,157 students across 37 Public Colleges of Education.
This was issued by the Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Dr. Saadija Shiraaz, in a Facebook post on Monday, August 4, 2025.
According to her, the amount was received from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), with the final tranche arriving on July 29.
Disbursements began on August 1, based on verified student data.
“On the 1st of August 2025, we proceeded to pay teacher trainee allowances of five months to 30,157 students in 37 Public Colleges of Education based on the data available to us at the time,” Dr. Shiraaz stated.
She added that the SLTF is still processing additional data from other Colleges of Education and will make further payments once verification and pre-audits are completed.
“We are currently receiving more student data from the Colleges of Education, and will pay as soon as that data is received and cleared after pre-audits,” she assured.
Dr. Shiraaz emphasized the Fund’s commitment to transparency and urged the public to engage respectfully, particularly on social media.
She also confirmed that work is ongoing to process reimbursements under the “No-Fees-Stress” initiative, with an extended deadline to accommodate all eligible students.
The SLTF continues to play a key role in delivering timely financial support to teacher trainees and says it remains open to collaboration with stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
