2025 WASSCE : Konongo Wesley SHS students attack housemistress after exam malpractice
Wesley Senior High School in Konongo, Ashanti Region, had riots after a group of students allegedly threw stones at the housemistress's residence.
The disturbance comes after a confrontation involving a student who was allegedly caught cheating during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The incident began on Friday, September 5, 2025, after the Christian Religious Studies paper.
A male candidate allegedly tried to cheat during the exam but was stopped by the senior housemistress.
According to the headmistress, Rev. Agnes Gaisie, the student verbally attacked the housemistress later that day and was made to apologise and taken through counselling.
However, tensions resurfaced on the night of Sunday, September 7, when students allegedly pelted the housemistress’s residence with stones.
The school administration immediately contacted the police, who have since stepped in to ensure safety and restore calm on campus.
Rev. Gaisie said that investigations are ongoing to identify those involved, and appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken.
“We’re working closely with the police to get to the bottom of this. Thankfully, the exams are continuing without further disruption,” she said.
Despite the incident, school authorities say the situation is under control and students have resumed writing their exams in a calm environment.
The development follows as the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has confirmed the arrest of 16 people nationwide for examination malpractice in the ongoing exercise.
