Bawku: Four persons killed by unknown gunmen in the Upper East Region
Four people, including two women, have reportedly been fatally shot by unidentified gunmen in Bawku within the last 24 hours.
The most recent incident occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, along the Atuba road near Binduri.
On Friday morning, a woman was reportedly shot after she stepped out to meet a colleague.
Later that evening, around 7 p.m., a man known as Salam was killed by two armed men on a motorcycle at a drinking establishment in Garu.
At around 11 p.m. the same day, another woman was also murdered in Binduri.
The latest attack transpired at dawn on Saturday, when gunmen ambushed and killed a man identified only as Azimbe.
Reports suggest that the deceased was the son of the late Kusasi chief, who was killed in Asawasi, Kumasi, in July of this year.
These killings have further escalated tensions in the already unstable region.
A report monitored by The Ghana Report indicates that military personnel have apprehended 10 individuals in connection with the murder of the second woman in Binduri.
The violence and tensions have diminished the previously vibrant municipality of Bawku in the Upper East Region.
This situation has disrupted peace initiatives in the municipality and resulted in the enforcement of a curfew, which restricts movement and leads to a ban on firearms.
Security forces have increased patrols in the area, with military personnel reportedly making arrests.
The recent incidents have reignited fears among residents and renewed calls for a sustainable resolution to the ongoing Bawku conflict, which has taken numerous lives over the years.
