Education Ministry Welcomes First-Year SHS Students to Begin 2025/2026 Academic Year

The Ministry of Education has officially welcomed approximately 590,000 first-year students to various senior high schools across Ghana, marking the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year.

This nationwide exercise forms part of the government’s continued commitment to ensuring access to quality secondary education under the Free Senior High School policy.

The Ministry emphasized that adequate arrangements have been made to accommodate all placed students, including provisions for infrastructure, teaching materials, and academic resources.

In a statement, the ministry congratulated the new students and urged them to make the most of this opportunity to excel academically and morally. Parents and guardians were also encouraged to support their wards as they transition into this new phase of their educational journey.

He also commended parents and guardians for their patience and cooperation throughout the complex school placement exercise.

This annual intake of nearly 600,000 students represents a significant moment for the country's educational framework and its future development. The successful integration of this new cohort is vital for maintaining the momentum of national educational initiatives and for building the skilled human capital necessary for national progress.

"Management confirmed that all placement and residential status assignments have been finalized, bringing the initial allocation process to a close. To ensure a seamless transition into the academic year, families are being encouraged to visit the assigned institutions to complete the necessary enrollment procedures for their wards."

The 2025/2026 academic year officially commences this week, with classes expected to begin immediately across all regions.
