GAF Recruitment 2025: Requirements, Roles and How to Apply
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has officially opened applications for its 2025 recruitment exercise. The announcement, published in the Daily Graphic on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, outlines the qualifications and entry requirements for interested candidates. The recruitment covers the Navy, Air Force, and Medical branches.
Navy Recruitment
For those interested in joining the Navy, there are opportunities in different branches. Applicants for the Executive Branch must have at least six credits in WASSCE, including English and Mathematics, and a background in programs such as General Arts, Business, Science or Visual Arts.
The Supply and Secretarial Branch includes roles like clerks, writers, cooks, stewards, store man and tailors. Each role requires a minimum of six credits at WASSCE with English and Mathematics, or recognized vocational certificates.
The Technical Branch offers positions for engineering artificers, electrical and weapon artificers, shipwrights, plumbers, masons, carpenters, radio technicians, refrigeration mechanics, and vehicle mechanics. Applicants here must have professional certificates such as City and Guilds, NVTI, GES or HND qualifications, depending on the specialization.
Air Force Recruitment
The Air Force is also inviting applications. In the Administrative Branch, candidates must have six credits at WASSCE including English and Mathematics, with backgrounds in Arts, Business, Science or Visual Arts.
The Supply Branch focuses on clerical and purchasing roles, where applicants must show six credits at WASSCE or equivalent vocational training.
In the Technical Branch, positions are available in airframe engines, radio, electronics, instruments, armament, welding, carpentry, and mechanical works. Candidates are expected to hold WASSCE passes as well as technical or professional certificates from accredited institutions.
Medical Recruitment
The Armed Forces is also recruiting health professionals across all three services — Army, Navy and Air Force. Positions are open for general nurses, midwives, mental health nurses, health assistants, medical laboratory technicians, dental staff, dispensing and pharmacy technicians, radiographers, medical records officers, community health nurses, environmental health staff, optometrists, physiotherapists, and health information officers.
To qualify, candidates must be registered professionals with recognized certificates or diplomas from accredited institutions. In many cases, they must also be registered with the relevant councils such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, the Pharmacy Council, or other professional bodies.
Cost and Application Process
Applicants are required to purchase an e-voucher at a cost of 200 Ghana cedis from designated banks or Ghana Post Office across the country. This e-voucher will provide access to the online application system.
NOTE: The cost of the recruitment form has been reduced to GH¢200 from GH¢350.
The Ghana Armed Forces cautions applicants to deal only with the approved process and avoid middlemen or individuals who promise recruitment in exchange for extra fees.
For general eligibility, each applicant must:
- Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth.
- Be of good character.
- Be not less than 18 years of age and not more than 25 years for non-tradesmen and not more than 27 years for tradesmen by 30 December 2025.
- Be medically fit by Armed Forces standards.
- Be not married.
- Be not bonded.
- Be of minimum height of 1.68 m (5'6") for males and 1.57 m (5'2") for females. For Military Police only; be of a minimum height of 1.75 m (5'9") for males and 1.70 m (5'7") for females.
The Ghana Armed Forces stresses that all applicants must meet the general eligibility requirements in addition to these specific qualifications. Successful candidates will be expected to undergo further training and contribute to defending the nation.
