The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially declared Friday, November 7, 2025, as a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for all teaching and non-teaching staff across public schools in the country.
This day has been dedicated to giving education personnel the opportunity to participate in professional learning and capacity-building activities designed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
According to the statement released by the Service, GES explained that the CPD Day forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the competence and efficiency of both teaching and non-teaching staff. The initiative also seeks to promote a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and accountability among personnel within the education sector.
Students to Stay Home
The official statement clarified that students will not attend school on the said date. Instead, schools will dedicate the day entirely to training and development sessions for staff. This arrangement, according to GES, is to ensure that teachers and other education workers have ample time to participate fully in the scheduled CPD activities.
Focus Areas for the CPD Day
The CPD sessions are expected to focus on critical areas such as effective classroom management, data protection, digital literacy, and professional ethics. Staff will also receive updates on current educational policies and strategies aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes.
Participation Is Mandatory
GES further reminded all teaching and non-teaching personnel that attendance and active participation in the CPD activities are mandatory. The training contributes to the accumulation of credit points required for the renewal of professional licenses under the National Teaching Council’s (NTC) guidelines.
Supervision and Compliance
Regional and District Directors of Education have been directed to ensure the smooth organization and supervision of the day’s activities across all schools. Headteachers and administrators are to make the necessary arrangements to facilitate the sessions and record attendance accurately.
