Kpassa SHTS Headmaster Dismissed From Office Over Unauthorized Student Levies
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has removed Rockson Kwame Tawiah, the headmaster of Kpassa Senior High Technical School (SHTS), from office following revelations of unauthorized fee collection from students.
According to a statement issued by GES, Mr. Tawiah was found to have demanded payments from students without approval, violating the Service’s strict guidelines on school levies. The decision was made after an internal investigation confirmed the breach.
Reports indicate that Mr. Tawiah collected GH¢150 from each of the school’s 2,900 students, amounting to over GH¢435,000 in total. These funds were allegedly solicited for various school-related activities, but GES maintains that no such charges were sanctioned.
The unauthorized collection sparked outrage among parents and education stakeholders, prompting swift action from the regional education authorities.
Following his dismissal, Mr. Tawiah has been directed to report to the Oti Regional Directorate of Education for reassignment.
GES emphasized that the move is part of broader efforts to enforce accountability and protect students from financial exploitation. The Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring that public education remains accessible and free from unapproved financial burdens.
This incident has reignited national conversations about transparency and oversight in Ghana’s public schools. Education advocates are calling for stricter monitoring mechanisms and clearer communication between school administrators and regulatory bodies.
As the story unfolds, many hope that the disciplinary action taken against Mr. Tawiah will serve as a deterrent to similar practices in other institutions.
