15 Arrested After Shooting incident at Ho Central Mosque
Fifteen (15) people have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque in the Volta Region of Ghana on Friday morning, December 26, 2025.
The arrests were made after sporadic gunfire disrupted Jumu’ah prayers at the mosque, prompting a rapid response from the police and other security agencies.
The incident disrupted morning Jumu’ah prayers and led to a swift response from security personnel, who arrested the suspects. At least seven Muslims sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.
The suspects are currently in the custody of the Volta Regional Police Command.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. when a newly installed Chief Imam arrived at the mosque to lead the prayers.
According to the report, the violence broke out after supporters of Alhaji Alfa Anas clashed with some armed men, who were allegedly providing security for the newly installed Chief Imam.
For over a decade, two rival factions, led by Alhaji Alfa Anas and the newly installed Imam, have been in dispute over who is the legitimate Regional Chief Imam.
Friday’s clash is the latest in a series of violent incidents linked to the long-standing leadership dispute in the area.
