GAF Opens 2025/2026 Military Academy Intake: (Check out the full entry requirements & deadline)
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has opened applications for the 2025/2026 intake into the Ghana Military Academy, announcing full details of the entry requirements, eligible academic qualifications and the closing date for prospective candidates seeking careers in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
According to the official recruitment notice, only Ghanaian citizens by birth are eligible to apply. Applicants must be of good character, medically fit in line with GAF standards, and able to meet strict physical and age requirements. Regular Officer Cadet applicants must be unmarried, not bonded, and must fall between 18 and 26 years old by 31 March 2026.
Minimum height requirements remain unchanged: 1.68m (5’6”) for males and 1.60m (5’2”) for females, although specialist units such as the Military Police apply higher standards. All candidates must also pass the pre-joining fitness assessment.
The Armed Forces emphasised that academic results must be genuine and verifiable. Applicants are required to present six credits at BECE, WASSCE or SSSCE, including English, Mathematics and Science, or an equivalent combination of GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels. The notice stressed that “transcripts or attestations will not be accepted at the documentation stage.”
A wide range of officer career paths is available under the Army’s Regular Career Officer Course, covering Infantry, Armour, Artillery, Signals and Communications, Engineering, Ordnance, Supply and Transport, Physical Training, the Education Corps, Records, Agricultural Extension, the Army Band, Public Relations, the Pay Corps and Catering.
Most specialist roles require a first degree not below Second Class Lower from an accredited institution. Engineering and technical positions demand qualifications in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Instrumentation, Cyber Security, Telecommunications, Logistics and other applied science fields. Additional certifications in areas such as drone piloting, network engineering and ethical hacking will offer applicants an advantage.
Short Service Commission options are available for applicants with master’s degrees and professional registrations, particularly those entering engineering, logistics, signals, technical services and other specialised branches.
The Navy is inviting applications for Executive, Technical, Supply, Administration, Education, Agricultural Extension, Records, Public Relations, Band, Catering and Pay Corps roles, with preference given to candidates with technical, scientific and maritime-related training or professional certifications.
Similarly, the Air Force is recruiting for Operations, Engineering, Supply, Administration, Ordnance, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Public Relations, Education, Band, Catering and Physical Training. Degrees in physics, mathematics, aerospace studies, mechanical and electrical engineering, aviation technology and related fields are required, while holders of CPL or ATPL licences will be at a competitive advantage.
In addition to military and technical roles, the Ghana Military Academy is accepting applications from professionals in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Biomedical Science, Audiology, Speech Therapy and Environmental Health. These categories carry higher age limits, ranging from 30 to 40 years, and applicants must be duly registered with the relevant regulatory bodies.
There are also openings for religious officers. Chaplains and Imams must possess a first degree in Theology or Islamic Studies, have formal ordination or recognised religious authority, and demonstrate pastoral experience. Applicants must be fluent in English and at least one major Ghanaian language.
To begin the process, applicants must purchase an electronic voucher for GH₵250 from designated Post Offices nationwide. GAF urged prospective candidates to follow the requirements meticulously and submit applications before the deadline.
The closing date for all online submissions is Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
