NSA Withdraws Recognition of Ghana Swimming Association

The National Sports Authority, NSA, has officially withdrawn its recognition of the Ghana Swimming Association, GSA, and its Executive Council, with effect from January 7, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the NSA, the decision follows the Association’s failure and or refusal to submit audited accounts, comply with the requirements of its own constitution, and adequately respond to issues raised by the Authority. The NSA has also informed World Aquatics, the international governing body, of the withdrawal.

As a result, the Ghana Swimming Association and its Executive Council can no longer oversee national swimming competitions, select athletes for international events, or conduct aquatic sports activities either within or outside Ghana. Members of the Executive Council are also barred from representing Ghana at any aquatic-related functions, both locally and internationally.

The Authority, however, clarified that the decision does not amount to a total ban on swimming in Ghana. Activities of swimming clubs, training programmes, and competitions not directly organised by the GSA are expected to continue.

The National Sports Authority reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and developing aquatic sports in Ghana, while enforcing accountability, transparency, fairness, and good governance.

The statement was issued by the Public Relations Department of the National Sports Authority and dated Monday, 19th January 2026.
