Suame Technical Institute students vandalizing properties at Baba Yara Stadium (Watch Videos)
A video gone viral on social media that has sparked public outrage shows students of Suame Technical Institute vandalizing properties at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium following an inter-school competition.
In the viral footage, the students are seen pelting stones at colleagues from other schools shortly after the games ended.
The violent scenes occurred despite the presence of police officers at the stadium, raising concerns about crowd control and security during school sporting events.
The disturbance did not only affect students involved in the competition. Innocent bystanders were also caught in the chaos, as stones thrown during the riot reportedly struck some members of the public who were not involved in the altercation.
According to information accompanying the video, the riot was triggered by a misunderstanding between students of Suame Technical Institute and another school, which quickly escalated into violence and property destruction.
The incident has generated widespread condemnation on social media, with many users calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take swift disciplinary action against the school.
Social media users have submitted that imposing sanctions would serve as a deterrent to other schools and help curb indiscipline at inter-school events.
