GES suspends three schools from participating in sporting activities over a violent incident.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has imposed a two-year suspension on Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS), New Juaben Senior High School (NJUASCO), and New Nsutem Senior Technical High School from participating in all sports and extracurricular activities. The decision follows a series of violent incidents that occurred during a recent inter-school competition.
The suspension, announced on February 12, 2026, comes after reports of hooliganism, an alleged stabbing, and an alleged gang rape involving students from the three schools during the event. The GES described the conduct of the students as unacceptable and contrary to the principles of good sportsmanship and academic discipline.
The incidents have raised concerns about discipline and student conduct during organized school events.
In a statement, GES emphasized that the ban is intended to serve as a strong deterrent and to reinforce the importance of discipline, respect, and peaceful engagement in school-related activities. The Service noted that sports and extracurricular programmes are meant to promote unity, teamwork, and healthy competition, not violence.
The affected schools will be barred from participating in any sporting events, as well as other extracurricular competitions, for the next two years. GES further indicated that the schools are expected to implement strict internal disciplinary measures and guidance programs aimed at reshaping student behavior.
Education authorities have urged school heads, teachers, and parents to intensify supervision and mentorship to prevent similar incidents in the future. GES reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe and secure environments for all students and maintaining the integrity of inter-school competitions across the country.
