GES Recruitment Portal Closure: Haruna Iddrisu Outlines Next Phase for Applicants
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has justified the recent closure of the Ghana Education Service (GES) recruitment portal, describing it as a strategic move to manage the overwhelming number of applications and safeguard the integrity of the process.
Speaking to the media in Accra, the Minister explained that the decision was necessary to ensure an orderly, transparent, and efficient recruitment exercise that would not be strained by excessive submissions.
According to him, the portal recorded an extraordinary surge in interest, receiving over 40,000 applications within a short period. While this reflects the strong enthusiasm among graduates to join the teaching profession, he noted that such volumes place significant pressure on administrative processes.
“We recorded over 40,000 applications, but the target for this phase is 7,000 recruits,” he stated.
Mr. Iddrisu further clarified that the recruitment will strictly adhere to a merit-based system, where only applicants who meet the required assessment standards will advance to the final stages.
He revealed that the portal was designed to close automatically once the application limit was reached, a measure intended to prevent system overload and maintain fairness.
“We wanted to avoid overstretching the system. The closure was necessary to preserve both the credibility and manageability of the process,” he added.
The Minister emphasized that limiting application numbers allows the GES to conduct thorough screening and assessments without unnecessary delays. He stressed that the focus of the exercise is on quality rather than quantity.
“This recruitment is about selecting competent professionals who can make meaningful contributions to the education sector,” he noted.
He assured applicants that the process remains ongoing and that all submissions will be carefully reviewed to ensure only qualified candidates are selected.
Additionally, he disclosed that unsuccessful applicants, as well as those who were unable to apply, will be given another opportunity when the portal reopens. This, he explained, is dependent on financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance Ghana to support further recruitment.
“Once we receive budgetary approval, the portal will be reopened,” he said.
Mr. Iddrisu concluded by urging applicants to remain calm and trust the process, assuring the public of a fair, transparent, and ongoing recruitment exercise.
