2026 BECE: Candidates Delayed by Nyankrom Roadblock
Several candidates sitting for the ongoing 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) experienced delays after a roadblock at Nyankrom in the Western Region disrupted movement in the area.
The obstruction, reportedly mounted by residents protesting the poor condition of the road, brought traffic to a standstill and left many students stranded on their way to examination centres.
According to eyewitnesses, the frustrates residents blocked sections of the road to draw attention to the deteriorating state of the route, which they say has been neglected for years. The protest, while highlighting a genuine concern, had unintended consequences for candidates who were racing against time to write their papers.
Some students were forced to trek long distances to reach their centres, while others arrived late and visibly distressed.
Teachers and parents have since expressed concern over the impact of the delay on the candidates’ performance, calling for swift intervention in such situations to protect students during critical national examinations.
Authorities are being urged to address the poor road conditions in Nyankrom and ensure that measures are put in place to prevent similar disruptions in the future, especially during important academic activities like the BECE.
