Armed Forces Conduct Search Operation in Bawku to Restore Calm
The Ghana Armed Forces has undertaken a cordon and search operation in the Bawku General Area of the Upper East Region as part of ongoing security efforts under Exercise Storm Shield 2026.
The exercise, carried out on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, aimed at strengthening peace, stability, and safety in the area following continued security concerns.
According to the military, the operation was intended to identify potential threats, retrieve illegal items, and arrest persons suspected to be involved in disturbances within the enclave.
Speaking after the exercise, the Command Operations Officer at Headquarters Northern Command, Colonel John Yaw Kwarteng, commended residents for their cooperation during the operation.
He further urged the public to support the military and other security agencies with credible information that could assist in identifying and arresting individuals whose activities threaten peace in the area.
Colonel Kwarteng assured residents that the Ghana Armed Forces would sustain operations in the area to protect lives and property.
At the end of the operation, suspects arrested alongside retrieved items were handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and possible prosecution.
