TTAG Calls on Government to Restore Automatic Posting of Teacher Trainees

The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has appealed to the government to restore the automatic posting of graduates from public colleges of education, warning that the current recruitment system is leaving many newly trained teachers uncertain about their future.

According to the association, the discontinuation of the automatic posting policy has created anxiety among teacher trainees, as only a limited number are expected to secure employment with the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, TTAG President Divine Nanija urged the government to expand the financial clearance granted by the Ministry of Finance to ensure the full absorption of the 2023 batch of trained teachers.

He also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to direct the restoration of the automatic posting policy and treat teacher recruitment as a matter of national urgency.

TTAG further called on the government to fulfill the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto promise of guaranteeing employment for newly trained teachers after graduation.

The association also demanded a clear and time-bound roadmap to address the growing backlog of unemployed trained teachers across the country.

Mr. Nanija described the decision to recruit only 7,000 teachers as unfair to many qualified trainees who could be excluded from the process.

“Are they expected to wait indefinitely? Are they to be absorbed gradually without a clear plan? Or are we, as a country, normalizing a situation where trained teachers complete their education only to be left in uncertainty?” he questioned.

He stressed that the issue goes beyond employment, describing it as a matter of fairness, trust, and the credibility of Ghana’s education system.

“This is not just about jobs. It is about fairness, trust, and the integrity of our educational system,” he stated.

Mr. Nanija added that while TTAG remains open to dialogue and collaboration with government and stakeholders, the association cannot remain silent on the concerns of teacher trainees.

“Ghana cannot continue to train teachers only to leave them without opportunities. The future of education depends not only on training teachers but also on creating opportunities for them to serve,” he said.
