GES Releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for Second Cycle Institutions
The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the approved academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The calendar applies to both Single Track and Transitional Schools.
Single Track Schools
Form One and Form Two
First Semester
- Students will be in school from 18th September, 2026, to 29th January, 2027.
- Vacation will be from 30th January, 2027, to 29th March, 2027.
Second Semester
- Students will be in school from 30th March, 2027, to 30th July, 2027.
- Vacation begins on 31st July, 2027, marking the end of the academic year.
Form Three
First Semester
- Students will be in school from 18th September, 2026, to 18th December, 2026.
- Vacation will be from 19th December, 2026, to 31st January, 2027.
Second Semester
Students will be in school from 1st February, 2027, to 18th June, 2027, marking the end of the academic year.
3. Transitional Schools
Form One
First Semester
- Students will be in school from 18th September, 2026, to 13th November, 2026.
- Online learning at home will take place from 16th November, 2026, to 18th December, 2026.
- Break will be from 19th December, 2026, to 7th February, 2027.
- Students will return to school from 8th February, 2027, to 16th April, 2027.
- Online learning at home will continue from 19th April, 2027, to 14th May, 2027.
- Vacation will be from 15th May, 2027, to 20th June, 2027.
Second Semester
- Students will be in school from 21st June, 2027, to 27th August, 2027.
- Vacation begins on 28th August, 2027, marking the end of the academic year.
Form Two
First Semester
- Students will be in school from 16th November, 2026, to 5th February, 2027.
- Online learning at home will take place from 8th February, 2027, to 5th March, 2027.
- Vacation will be from 6th March, 2027, to 18th April, 2027.
Second Semester
Students will be in school from 19th April, 2027, to 27th August, 2027.
Vacation begins on 28th August, 2027, marking the end of the academic year.
Form Three
First Semester
- Students will be in school from 18th September, 2026, to 18th December, 2026.
- Vacation will be from 19th December, 2026, to 4th January, 2027.
- Students will be in school from 5th January, 2027, to 18th June, 2027, marking the end of the academic year.

1. CHRISTMAS BREAK: Nineteenth December, two thousand twenty-six – Fourth January, two thousand twenty-seven
2. EASTER BREAK: Twenty-fifth – Thirtieth March two thousand twenty-seven
3. MID-SEMESTER BREAK: Seventeenth – Twentieth June for Form Two
4. W A S C E: Sixth April – Eighteenth June two thousand twenty-seven
