Ministry of Health Shuts Down Techiman Krobo Nursing Training College Over Student Unrest
The Ministry of Health has temporarily shut down the Techiman Krobo Nursing Training College in the Bono East Region following ongoing student unrest and repeated violations of the institution’s rules and regulations.
The closure, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, and signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions at the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry said the suspension of academic activities will remain in place until further notice as authorities work to restore calm and assess the situation.
According to the ministry, the decision was taken after several interventions, including engagements, counselling sessions, and appeals involving key stakeholders such as the Regional Security Council.
The ministry explained that despite these efforts, some students continued to engage in activities that disrupted the smooth running of the college and posed a threat to the safety, peace, and orderly administration of the institution.
Rather than taking action against individual students, authorities decided to close the entire institution temporarily, stressing that restoring discipline and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and property remains the immediate priority.
Officials noted that the closure will allow the relevant authorities to thoroughly assess the situation and implement measures necessary to create a safe and conducive environment before academic activities resume.
As part of the directive, all students have been instructed to leave the campus peacefully and return to their respective homes by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Parents and guardians have also been advised to make arrangements to receive their wards.
The Ministry of Health assured students, parents, staff, and the general public that efforts are underway to resolve the matter as soon as possible. It added that further updates on the reopening of the college will be communicated through official channels.
The ministry concluded by appealing for the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders, emphasizing its commitment to restoring a safe, disciplined, and effective learning environment at the institution.
