ECG announces emergency power outage in parts of Accra on Sunday; Check Out affected areas.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Accra West Region, has announced an emergency power outage in parts of Accra on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The outage is to enable the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to undertake emergency works to replace a damaged transmission tower on the Tema–Achimota 161 kV transmission line at Ashaiman.
According to ECG, the transmission tower was damaged after a fuel tanker exploded while welding work was being carried out on its tank within the transmission line right-of-way.
The emergency outage is scheduled to begin at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday and is expected to last until 6:00 p.m.
Areas expected to be affected include James Town, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Sempe, parts of Kaneshie, North Industrial Area, Okaishie, Agbogbloshie, Kantamanto, Adabraka, Ridge, Tesano, Santana Market, parts of Alajo, Malam Atta Market, Asylum Down, and surrounding communities.
ECG has apologized to customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience the planned outage may cause.
The company has urged affected residents to take note of the outage period and make the necessary arrangements.
