Teacher Unions Threaten Industrial Action Over Salary Scale Delays; Check Out Date...
The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Musah, has warned that teacher unions could embark on industrial action if newly promoted teachers are not enrolled onto their respective salary scales under the automatic promotion system by Monday, August 31, 2026.
According to Mr. Musah, the unions are demanding that the affected teachers receive the salaries and benefits associated with their new positions without further delays.
He also described a directive from the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department concerning the process as unlawful, insisting that the unions will take action if the matter is not resolved by the deadline.
The development could affect the education sector if the deadline passes without a resolution between the government and the teacher unions.
