UCC Student Found Dead at Beach: Family Announces Date for Final Funeral Rites
The family of 20-year-old University of Cape Coast (UCC) student, Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, has announced the final funeral arrangements following her tragic death in June 2026.
The family of Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, a 20-year-old Bachelor of Commerce student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has announced plans to lay her to rest following her tragic death that shocked the university community and the public.
Innocentia, who was studying Human Resource Management, will be buried on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. Anthony R.C. Church, Dzodze Hospital.
According to the funeral arrangements, her remains will be laid in state at the church before a burial Mass is held. She will subsequently be interred at the cemetery of the church.
The family has also announced that there will be no wake-keeping.
Funeral Arrangements
The funeral activities will commence with the collection and conveyance of Innocentia’s remains to St. Anthony R.C. Church, Dzodze Hospital, where mourners will have the opportunity to pay their last respects.
This will be followed by the burial Mass and her subsequent interment.
A memorial and thanksgiving Mass will then be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the same church to honour Innocentia’s life and legacy.
How Innocentia’s Death Happened
Innocentia’s death followed her disappearance in June 2026, which triggered concern among her family, friends, colleagues and members of the UCC community.
She was reportedly last seen on June 11, 2026, at Ayensu Plaza Hostel on the UCC campus. At the time, she was said to be wearing a black dress.
Following her disappearance, efforts were intensified to locate her, with friends, colleagues and family members joining the search.
However, two days later, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, her body was discovered along the shoreline of the university’s coastal beach.
She was reportedly found lying face down, leading to investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The tragic incident left many members of the UCC community devastated, as questions remained about what happened to the young student before her body was discovered.
As the family prepares to give Innocentia her final farewell, loved ones, friends, colleagues and members of the university community are expected to gather to mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
