Ghana returned to democracy within Mahama's 120 days —Manasseh Azure
Manasseh Azure Awuni, an award-winning investigative journalist, said, "Ghana has returned to democracy," outlining the first 120 days of President John Dramani Mahama's new administration.
Manasseh's comment in a social media post on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, seems to be a reflection and a criticism of previous administrations, pointing to an improvement toward better governance, transparency, and respect for democratic norms under the new leadership.
Despite its briefness, the post expresses the opinions of civil society groups and segments of the public who have cheered recent developments like the revival of governance reforms, public engagement in national issues, and a renewed emphasis on institutions like the Auditor-General's Office and the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
President Mahama was sworn into office in January 2025 after winning the December 2024 elections.
A Ministerial code of conduct has been reinstated, anti-corruption rhetoric has been resurrected, and a number of appointments have been made to improve institutional accountability in his new term.
