Tension heightening: As another SHS student caught with a locally made gun during a normal inspection
A Male boarding student at OKESS was discovered in possession of the pistol by school authorities during a normal inspection of the boys' dormitory, according to reports from GhOne TV.
The Student was immediately arrested and handed over to the police for further investigations.
Relating to Suzzy's incident, which happened in April 2025, it left her permanently blind. She was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and later transferred to Accra for advanced medical treatment. Businessman Ibrahim Mahama came to her aid and covered her medical expenses.
Now, with another weapon found on a different school campus, many people are demanding answers. Parents, teachers, and education stakeholders are calling for stricter measures to prevent weapons from entering schools.
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has revealed that several students have been caught with dangerous items like knives, scissors, and broken bottles.
They are, however, urging parents to pay close attention to what their children pack for school.
The National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) is also asking schools to tighten security. They want more thorough checks at school gates and suggest employing more security personnel.
Ghanaians are asking serious questions as the police carry out their investigations: How are students getting these weapons, and what steps may be taken to restore school safety?
