GES Releases Official Prices for School Uniforms and House Wear for First-Year SHS Students: "Parents to Begin Paying" (Check Out…)

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the approved quantities and prices for school uniforms, school cloth, and house dresses for first-year senior high school students ahead of the 2024/2025 academic year.

In a letter dated June 24, 2025, and signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, the GES highlighted the pricing structure to guide schools and parents as they prepare for the upcoming academic term.

According to the statement, each first-year student is entitled to

  • Two (2) sets of school uniforms at GH₵180.00
  • Two (2) sets of house dresses at GH₵150.00
  • One (1) set of school clothes at GH₵100.00

The GES emphasized that this directive is in line with the Public Procurement Act, 2023 (Act 914), as amended, and the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921). Heads of schools are to work with approved suppliers to ensure value for money while meeting the needs of their students.

Regional directors have been instructed to communicate this information promptly to all heads of senior high schools. Heads of schools must also ensure that the quantities ordered are based on verified enrollment figures to avoid wastage or shortages.

“This is a timely directive to help schools plan appropriately while easing the burden on parents,” said Mr. Agyemang-Duah. “We want to ensure that every first-year student receives their prescribed schoolwear on time to begin the school year in comfort and dignity.”

According to GES, this letter replaces an earlier communication issued on 19th June 2025 and includes a sample contract agreement form to assist schools in the procurement process.
