Over 100 trained teachers demand 10 months’ unpaid salaries

The 2022 batch of trained teachers has renewed its call for the release of financial clearance to facilitate the payment of their outstanding salaries.

More than 100 aggrieved members of the group picketed at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters on Saturday, June 23, demanding payment of over 10 months of unpaid stipends and the issuance of staff ID numbers.

The group said a recent engagement with the Ministry of Education revealed that a request had been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance for financial clearance.

However, speaking to Citi News on Monday, August 25, a member of the group’s leadership, Eric Darfour, said despite assurances from the Education Ministry, they have not received any updates.

“We met the director, but we were not satisfied with what he was saying, so we requested to meet with the minister on Tuesday. He said the matter must be treated with urgency. They issued a letter to the Ministry of Finance that they should handle our issue as a matter of urgency, so we are waiting to hear from them.

“The minister made it clear to us that our issue will be resolved soon, but as to when it will be resolved, they couldn’t tell us,” Mr. Darfour explained.
