Monday, September 22, 2025, Declared a Public Holiday in Honour of Founder’s Day.
The Ministry of the Interior has officially declared Monday, September 22, 2025, as a public holiday to be observed throughout the country. This announcement follows the annual celebration of Founder’s Day, which falls on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Founder’s Day is a statutory public holiday dedicated to reflecting on the struggles, leadership, and vision of the men and women whose sacrifices laid the foundation of the nation. It is a day set aside to remind citizens of the importance of unity, patriotism, and the values upon which the country was built.
Because this year’s Founder’s Day falls on a Sunday, the President of the Republic, in accordance with the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), exercised his authority through an Executive Instrument (E.I.) to declare the following day, Monday, September 22, 2025, as an additional public holiday. This ensures that the significance of the day is fully observed by all citizens.
According to the statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), the Ministry emphasized that the holiday will be recognized nationwide and called on the public to use the occasion to reflect on the country’s journey and renew their commitment to national development.
The observance of public holidays such as Founder’s Day is not merely symbolic; it serves as an opportunity for citizens to pause, remember, and celebrate the collective heritage that binds the nation together.
Monday’s holiday will therefore provide not only rest but also a moment of reflection on the enduring values of leadership, resilience, and service.
