Government Set To Open Passport Office In Bolgatanga On October 23, 2025
The Government of Ghana is set to officially open a new Passport Office in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional capital, on Thursday, October 23, 2025. This move forms part of the government’s broader effort to decentralize passport application and processing services across the country.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, through a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, October 20, 2025.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the new office is fully equipped with modern biometric systems and will provide efficient, secure, and timely passport processing.
The opening of the Bolgatanga office adds to the growing network of regional passport centers across Ghana, as it will make it easier for residents of the Upper East Region to access passport-related services without having to travel long distances to other regions to secure their passport.
Initially, applicants from the region had to travel to Tamale, Kumasi, or Accra to apply for or renew their passports, which caused many challenges and delays.
With the aim of the new Bolgatanga Passport Office set to open, residents will soon be able to enjoy the same level of services available in other regional offices. The center will handle new passport applications, renewals, replacements for lost or damaged passports, and passport collections. The facility is also expected to operate with modern technology to ensure faster processing and better security.
The establishment of this centre forms part of the government’s ongoing effort to decentralize passport services and make them more accessible to Ghanaians in all 16 regions. It also aligns with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ goal of improving public service delivery and promoting efficiency in government institutions.
The new office is expected to reduce congestion at existing centres, particularly in Tamale and Kumasi, and will also bring economic benefits to the Bolgatanga Municipality as more people travel there for passport-related services.
The opening of the Bolgatanga Passport Office is therefore seen as a major achievement for the Upper East Region, marking another milestone in the government’s drive to bring essential services closer to the people.
