See Photos: Four reported dead after gunmen open fire in Garu
Four people have been confirmed dead following a suspected targeted shooting incident in Garu, a community in the Upper East Region, on Monday morning.
According to the reports a group of armed men attacked the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office in Garu, where they shot and killed one person on the spot.
The assailants then moved towards the Garu school area, where two others were also gunned down.
The victims include a bystander, an NHIA staff member, a mentally unstable man, and Yahaya Bukari, headmaster of Garu D/A Junior High School.
The motive behind the attack is not yet known, as police investigations are underway.
However, some residents believe the victims were deliberately targeted, suggesting that the attack was premeditated.
The incident has left residents gripped with fear, with many choosing to stay indoors for safety.
Some locals described the situation as tense and called for a heightened security presence in the area.
Security forces have since been deployed to maintain order and commence investigations into the identities and motives of the attackers.
Authorities are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as efforts continue to restore peace and normalcy in the district.
