2026 GTLE: How to check status for upcoming resit and new registrations
Prospective candidates preparing to write the next Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) cycle, including both fresh and resit applicants are advised to confirm whether their details have been uploaded onto the National Teaching Council (NTC) portal by their respective training institutions to avoid last-minute challenges when registration opens.
This step is considered critical, as candidates whose details have not been uploaded and indexed by the NTC will not be eligible to take part in the forthcoming general registration for either fresh candidates or resit applicants. Without successful indexing, participation in the GTLE is not permitted.
Although the National Teaching Council is yet to officially open registration or announce the examination date for the next GTLE, candidates have been advised to confirm their status early to avoid last-minute challenges when the portal is activated.
What Is NTC Indexing?
NTC indexing is a mandatory process that captures the personal and academic details of newly trained teachers. Through this process, the Council generates a unique indexing number for each candidate.
The indexing number serves as an essential requirement for registering for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination. Without it, a newly trained teacher cannot sit for the GTLE and will not be recognised as a qualified teacher by the Ghana Education Service.
How to Check Your Indexing Status
Candidates can confirm whether their training institution has submitted their details by following these steps:
1. Visit the official NTC Indexing Portal at https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh .
2. On the homepage, locate and click the option labeled Check Confirmation Status.
3. Provide your full name/index number and any other required information exactly as it appears on your academic records.
4. Click the search or confirm button to check your status.
5. If your details have been uploaded successfully, your indexing status will appear as successfully indexed. If your details are not found, it means your training institution has not uploaded your information.
6. Contact your institution if necessary: Where your details are missing, report immediately to your college or training institution to confirm and complete the submission to the National Teaching Council.
Registering for GTLE (When the Portal Opens)
Once indexing is complete and the NTC officially opens the GTLE registration, candidates should:
- Visit the NTC examinations portal at https://exams.ntc.gov.gh
- Choose either New Registration (for first-time candidates) or Resit Registration (for those repeating papers).
- Enter your Serial Number and PIN, fill in personal details, upload a passport-size photo with a white background, and submit your form.
- Print the confirmation slip for your records.
Note: Indexing must be completed before any fresher or resit candidate can register for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.
Registration for the Licensure Examination
Candidates who have been successfully indexed will be eligible to register for the GTLE once registration is officially opened.
