GES Releases an Update on Promotion to Director I and Director II Ranks.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released an official communication to update the general public, with particular attention to teachers on the Deputy Director rank, on the status of promotions to Director II and Director I.
Management has confirmed that all necessary arrangements for the promotion of qualified officers to these higher ranks have been concluded.
According to the statement, a committee made up of representatives from the Ghana Education Service, the Public Services Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and PricewaterhouseCoopers has completed its work and submitted a final report to GES Management. The process involved broad consultations with key stakeholders, including substantial engagement and input from the teacher unions.
Following these developments, management has indicated that the first call for applications, alongside the aptitude test for promotion to Director II and Director I, is expected to be announced by the end of the first quarter of the year. Eligible officers are therefore encouraged to remain attentive to official announcements.
In a notable policy shift, GES also announced that promotion to these ranks will no longer be tied to the availability of limited office vacancies, which previously restricted progression. This change reflects a commitment made by President John Dramani Mahama to teachers and is expected to improve career advancement prospects.
GES has assured all stakeholders that further details and comprehensive guidelines will be issued in due course through official GES communication channels only. The statement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations of the Ghana Education Service, and dated January 28, 2026.
