Ground Up Chale: Counting the Ghanaian Artists Signed Under the Movement
Ground Up Chale is one of Ghana’s most influential music movements a hybrid of a record label, creative platform, and digital promotional engine that helped launch and elevate multiple voices in Ghanaian hip-hop, Afrobeat, and hiplife. It has often operated less like a traditional major label and more like a talent incubator, providing exposure, distribution, and support for emerging artists.
Core Ghanaian Artists Associated With Ground Up Chale

7. Tulenkey—Another name credited on Ground Up releases. He was active part of the early Ground Up Chale scene, appearing alongside other emerging talents like Kofi Mole, Pappy Kojo, and Kwesi Arthur.
Total core Ghanaian artists often cited as signed or part of Ground Up Chale: 7 — though this can vary depending on how membership in the collective vs. formal contract is interpreted.
But What Counts as “Signing”?
The definition of who is “signed” with Ground Up isn’t always straightforward:
Ground Up Chale began as a movement and promotional platform, supporting artists with exposure online—not always through traditional label contracts.
Some artists, like Kwesi Arthur, later moved to independent status or complained publicly about contract limitations, suggesting label ties were contractual rather than purely promotional.
Others—such as Twitch 4EVA—appear to have been affiliated but have since left the roster quietly.
Beyond the Core Roster
In addition to the names listed, Ground Up Chale has supported other emerging talents through collaborations, promotional releases, and collective projects. These include acts featured on joint tapes or microsites—but not all have formal long-term signing agreements.
Impact on Ghana’s Music Scene
Ground Up Chale’s role extends beyond simple artist signing:
It bridged social media with mainstream radio success for several artists who might otherwise have remained underground.
The platform is credited with elevating Ghanaian hip-hop and Afrobeat voices to larger audiences regionally and beyond.
Its model—blending digital virality with collaborative mixtapes—has influenced how newer creatives approach music careers in Ghana.
