A fierce fire outbreak has consumed a six-bedroom apartment in Nyanshegu, a suburb of Tamale.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the incident occurred around 1:00pm when the station received a distress call reporting a fire at the residential property. A team of firefighters was immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived within minutes to contain the blaze.
According to the GNFS, the prompt response and effective firefighting efforts helped to confine the fire to the affected apartment, averting what could have been a major disaster in the densely populated area.
16 other bedrooms were salvaged from ruins.
No casualties were recorded in the incident, although parts of the building and some personal belongings were damaged.
Preliminary investigations by the GNFS indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
Officials have therefore renewed calls on the public to ensure proper electrical wiring and avoid the use of faulty electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
