Gov't Clears CETAG Book and Research Allowances, Ending Prolonged Strike
The Government of Ghana has fully settled all outstanding book and research allowance arrears owed to members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana, bringing an end to a prolonged strike that disrupted academic activities across the country’s colleges of education.
The industrial action, which lasted several weeks, was triggered by delays in the payment of allowances, including disputed claims dating back to 2023.
CETAG members had repeatedly embarked on strike, demanding the settlement of the arrears to secure their rightful entitlements.
Speaking before the Government Assurances Committee, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, confirmed that all outstanding payments have now been made.
He noted that the clearance includes the previously disputed 2023 allowances, effectively resolving the long-standing impasse.
The strike significantly disrupted teaching and learning in colleges of education nationwide, leaving students with interrupted lectures and delayed academic calendars.
With the full payment of arrears, normal academic activities are expected to resume, bringing relief to both tutors and students and restoring stability to the academic environment.
