‘If All 500,000 Become Police, Where Will They Find Thieves?'—Asiedu Nketia’s Askes (Watch Video & Reactions)

According to a report by TV3 Ghana on Thursday, March 12, 2026, a recent comment by Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sparked widespread reactions on social media after he questioned the scale of Ghana's ongoing police recruitment exercise.

Asiedu Nketia reportedly asked, "If all 500,000 become police officers, where will they find thieves?" The remark, which appeared to be a joke about the large number of applicants for the police recruitment, quickly went viral and drew mixed responses from Ghanaians online.

Many social media users found the comment amusing, with several reacting with laughter emojis and expressing sheer disbelief. A user named Abu Solo questioned the logic behind the recruitment numbers, asking why exactly 5,000 forms were not sold instead of 500,000. Speak Reuben described the week as a very long one, suggesting that the news cycle had been overwhelming.

David Yentema, a top fan on the platform, was more blunt in his assessment, simply describing the situation as a "lack of common sense." Other users, like Damire Mary and Shaban Issaka Ahmed, reacted with laughing and shocked emojis, respectively, reflecting the disbelief many Ghanaians felt about the statement.

Not everyone saw humor in the situation. Lord Koffis Djan criticized Asiedu Nketia directly, describing him as a serious joker and extending the criticism to the entire NDC party. Hakeem Oluwashina Adeyemi Badmus offered a more thoughtful perspective, reminding the public that the purpose of policing is to regulate communities, protect citizens, and prevent crime.

Appiah Sampson's comment, "2028 loading," appeared to suggest that such decisions could have consequences for the ruling party in the next general election.

The comment has reignited public debate about Ghana's security sector recruitment process and whether it is being handled with the seriousness it deserves.
