GES Moves to Manually Resolve Technical Challenges Affecting Online Teacher Recruitment Portal

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that it is working to manually resolve technical challenges currently affecting its online teacher recruitment portal.

The portal, which was launched to streamline the recruitment of qualified teachers into the public education system, has experienced a series of glitches in recent days, preventing many applicants from successfully submitting their applications or checking their placement status.

According to a statement from the GES, the technical team has been deployed to identify and fix the issues, but in the meantime, manual interventions are being implemented to ensure that no qualified candidate is disqualified due to system failures.

The development has caused anxiety among thousands of unemployed teachers who have been eagerly awaiting the outcome of the recruitment process.

The technical challenges are understood to include server timeouts, incomplete data capture, payment verification errors, and difficulties with document uploads.

Many applicants took to social media to express frustration, with some reporting that they had attempted to register multiple times only to receive error messages after completing lengthy forms. Others complained that the portal incorrectly flagged their qualifications as invalid or that their payment references were not recognized.

In response, the GES has assured the public that its technical team is working around the clock, and that a manual backup system is being used to cross-check and validate applications that may have been corrupted by the glitches. Applicants have been urged to keep all payment receipts and reference numbers for future verification.

The GES has also advised affected applicants to remain calm and avoid re-submitting multiple applications, which could further clog the system. Instead, the Service has opened dedicated help desks at its regional offices and published emergency contact numbers for technical support. “We understand the frustration this has caused, and we want to assure all prospective applicants that no one will be disadvantaged by these technical challenges,” a GES spokesperson stated.

The manual resolution process involves officials physically verifying application records against the portal database, a painstaking but necessary step to ensure accuracy and fairness.

The GES has not provided a timeline for when the portal will be fully restored but has promised regular updates.

The recruitment drive is part of a broader government effort to address teacher shortages in rural and underserved communities.

Thousands of trained teachers have graduated from colleges of education in recent years but remain unemployed due to fiscal constraints and limited vacancies.

The online portal was introduced as a transparent, merit-based system to replace older, less efficient methods. However, this latest technical setback has reignited debates about Ghana’s preparedness for fully digital public service delivery.

For now, affected applicants are being asked to exercise patience as GES officials manually sift through data. “We will get there,” the spokesperson assured. “Every qualified teacher will have their chance.”
