GES releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for Basic Schools.
Ghana Education Service has released the approved 2026/2027 academic calendar for basic schools across the country.
In a statement dated May 6, 2026, the management of GES announced that the calendar will apply to Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools (JHS) nationwide.
According to the release, the first term, which will run for 15 weeks, begins on September 8, 2026, and ends on December 17, 2026.
Vacation will start from December 18, 2026, to January 4, 2027. A two-day mid-term break is also scheduled for November 5 and 6, 2026.
The second term will last for 12 weeks. Schools are expected to reopen on January 5, 2027, and close on March 25, 2027.
The vacation period for the term will run from March 26 to April 19, 2027.
For the third term, schools will reopen on April 20, 2027, and close on July 22, 2027, bringing the academic year to an end. Vacation will officially begin on July 23, 2027.
GES further announced that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, May 5, 2027, to Wednesday, May 12, 2027.
The Service reminded all stakeholders that public holidays within the academic year are to be observed accordingly, while each term will include a two-day mid-term break.
Parents, guardians, teachers, and school heads have been urged to take note of the dates and prepare adequately to ensure a smooth and effective academic year.
