Stop The Tribal Politics—The North Deserves Better.
A worrying trend is gradually creeping into our politics in Northern Ghana, where some politicians now want elections to be based on “whose backyard” a region belongs to instead of competence, ideas, and development.
Speaking on a political show in Damongo-based KASHA FM, NDC Savannah Regional Deputy Secretary hopeful Jerry Bavug reportedly stated:
“NDC had zeros at Bawumia’s backyard; why can’t NPP get zeros in John Mahama’s backyard?”
This kind of politics is unfortunate, divisive, and dangerous for our democracy.
Northern Ghana is not anybody’s personal property. Votes in the North must not be demanded through tribal, regional, or emotional manipulation.
The people of the North deserve respect, development, jobs, quality education, good roads, healthcare, and opportunities — not political intimidation disguised as loyalty.
What Mr. Bavug and his likes must understand is simple:
John Dramani Mahama will not be on the ballot forever. His tenure will end in 2028. So if the NDC has no northern candidate afterward, does it mean the party should receive zero votes in the North?
Ghanaians are wiser today.
Politics must be based on:
- Vision
- Policies
- Development records
- Leadership competence
- Social interventions
The North must reject tribal politics and embrace issue-based leadership. No region belongs to one political party, and no politician owns the votes of Northerners.
The future of Northern Ghana should be built on progress — not propaganda.
