Suspected Armed Gang Leader Arrested Following Failed Attack in Bawku
A suspected armed gang leader who was reportedly on the Ghana Armed Forces' wanted list has been arrested in Bawku after security personnel failed an alleged planned attack in the area.
According to security sources, the suspect is believed to have mobilised members of an armed group in preparation for an operation scheduled for Sunday night. However, the plot was thwarted following a swift intervention by military personnel who acted on intelligence gathered ahead of the attack.
The suspect was arrested during the security operation, while an assault rifle and a quantity of ammunition were reportedly retrieved from his hideout. Authorities say the recovery is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance security within the conflict-prone area.
Several other individuals suspected to have participated in the planned attack are currently at large. Security agencies have since intensified operations in and around Bawku to apprehend the remaining suspects and prevent any further threats to public safety.
The arrest comes amid heightened security concerns in the area, where military and law enforcement agencies have maintained increased patrols and surveillance in response to recurring incidents of violence and unrest.
Officials have yet to disclose the identity of the suspect, while investigations continue to determine the full scope of the group's activities and any possible connections to previous security incidents in the region.
Security authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations progress and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the area continue
