Interior Ministry Revises Curfew Hours for Nkwanta South Communities
The Ministry of the Interior has announced revised curfew hours for several communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region as part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and enhance security amid the prolonged conflict in the area.
According to the Ministry, the revised curfew takes effect from Monday, July 13, 2026, following advice from the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument. Under the new directive, the curfew will now be observed daily from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., replacing the previous schedule of 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., which had been in force since Friday, June 19, 2026.
In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the affected communities were listed as Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta.
The Ministry appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups, and residents to remain calm, exercise restraint, and resolve disputes through peaceful and lawful means.
The statement also reiterated that the ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons in the affected communities remains in full force.
It warned that anyone found carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon in the affected areas will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
