WAEC Releases 2026 BECE Provisional Results for School Candidates
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results of candidates who participated in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
The announcement, contained in a press release dated July 29, 2026, brings excitement and relief to thousands of candidates, parents, teachers, and school authorities across the country.
According to a statement sighted by Ghana Media Trend, WAEC has forwarded the results to schools through the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directorates of Education. Candidates can also access their results online through the Council’s official results checking portal.
Over 620,000 Candidates Participated in 2026 BECE
WAEC revealed that a total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for the 2026 BECE.
The registered candidates comprised:
- 304,415 males
- 315,828 females
The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, with 3,601 candidates recorded as absent during the exercise.
In line with its commitment to inclusive education, WAEC provided special arrangements for candidates with additional needs, including:
- 136 candidates with visual impairment
- 282 candidates requiring hearing assessment support
- 510 candidates needing other forms of examination accommodations
WAEC Announces Sanctions Over Examination Malpractice
WAEC also disclosed that investigations into reported examination irregularities have led to the approval of various sanctions by the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee.
The sanctions include:
- Cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates
- Cancellation of entire results for 105 candidates
- Withholding of subject results for 119 candidates
- Withholding of entire results for 48 candidates
Additionally, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld pending further investigations.
WAEC explained that the affected results will either be released or cancelled after the completion of investigations, with a final decision expected by August 31, 2026.
WAEC Advises Affected Candidates
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been encouraged to visit WAEC’s irregularity portal to access information about their cases and understand the next steps.
The Council stated that the portal provides details on the reasons behind the sanctions and the procedures candidates should follow.
WAEC Reaffirms Commitment to Examination Integrity
WAEC has once again reminded candidates, teachers, and school authorities about the importance of maintaining honesty and discipline throughout the examination process.
The Council emphasized that examination malpractice affects the credibility of certificates and attracts serious consequences.
