Gov’t to probe 2026 BECE results after GNACOPS’ petition
The government has assured the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) that it will investigate concerns surrounding the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results following a petition submitted by the association.
The assurance was given by Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, when leaders of GNACOPS called on the Ministry of Education to present their concerns and recommendations regarding this year’s examination results.
In the petition, the association called for an independent inquiry into the assessment process, quality assurance measures and accountability surrounding the conduct and release of the 2026 BECE results.
Presenting the petition, one of the conveners of the group, Obengfo Kwasi Gyetuah, urged the government to thoroughly investigate the issues raised to help restore public confidence in the examination process.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the ministry, Dr Apaak assured the delegation that the government remains committed to ensuring fairness and equity in the education system.
He urged members of the association and the public to remain calm while the investigations are conducted, adding that the findings would be made public once the process is completed.
The petition comes amid growing concerns over the provisional 2026 BECE results.
Earlier, the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) also called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to conduct an urgent audit and reconciliation of the results, citing alleged discrepancies.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 5, the Association’s General Secretary, Kennedy Donkor, said GNAPS had received numerous reports from member schools across the country highlighting inconsistencies in the results released to candidates.
According to the association, some candidates were awarded grades for subjects they did not register for or sit, while others received results that did not reflect their known academic performance or recorded unexplained failures
