NOTE: Report by August 20 or Lose Your Appointment—Akandoh Warns New Health Recruits

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has warned newly recruited health professionals posted to health facilities across the country to report to their assigned duty stations by Thursday, August 20, 2026, or risk losing their appointments.

According to the Minister, the deadline is intended to enable the Ministry of Health to identify vacancies created by recruits who fail to take up their postings and promptly replace them with other qualified personnel.

Speaking during a courtesy call by members of the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Mr. Akandoh said the government had secured the necessary financial clearance before commencing the latest recruitment exercise.

He explained that the move was deliberate to ensure that newly recruited health professionals would be paid their salaries on time and avoid the accumulation of salary arrears, which has affected some recruits in previous years.

“I waited till I had financial clearance before we started doing that, and so those who reported early have even gotten their salaries, and so we are not going to pile any arrears this time around,” the Minister said.

He further urged those who had not yet reported to their assigned facilities to do so on or before the August 20 deadline.

“Those who have not reported, with the greatest of respect, they must report before or on August 20. If you don’t go after the 20th, it means that you will not go and you may forfeit that opportunity.”

Mr. Akandoh added that the Ministry would immediately undertake a mop-up exercise after the deadline to fill positions left vacant by recruits who fail to accept their postings.

The warning means that newly recruited health professionals who do not report to their designated duty stations by August 20 could forfeit their appointments, while their positions may subsequently be offered to other qualified applicants.

The Minister stressed that the Ministry would not allow vacancies to remain unfilled indefinitely due to recruits who fail to take up their postings.
