“Act Now”: NDC Grassroots Members Demand Job Opportunities from the Government—Isaac Anane M. K. Gracious

Grassroots members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have intensified their calls on the government to urgently address their growing concerns over unemployment and lack of support.

The members are specifically urging the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, to expedite the release of financial clearance to facilitate recruitment across various public sector institutions. According to them, the delay in granting clearance is worsening the economic hardships faced by many grassroots members who played active roles in the party’s political activities.

The appeal reflects mounting concerns among party faithful and grassroots supporters who believe their contributions to the party’s success must be recognized through inclusive policies and fair access to opportunities. Many argue that strengthening grassroots engagement is essential for sustaining political momentum and ensuring long-term national development.

In a statement issued on March 23, 2026, the Grassroots President, Isaac Anane M. K. Gracious, emphasized that the grassroots will no longer tolerate neglect. "Growing frustration among party supporters (grassroots members) at the base level, many of whom feel sidelined despite their contributions to the party’s electoral success."

He recalled that during President Mahama’s first administration (2012–2016), grassroots members felt sidelined but remained silent—a situation he believes contributed to the party’s defeat and eventual move into opposition.

He stressed that the current challenges cannot be blamed on President Mahama, whom he described as doing a commendable job. Instead, he pointed to appointees who are expected to create opportunities for grassroots supporters but are allegedly diverting these opportunities to individuals who are not recognized party loyalists.

“Grassroots members are the backbone of the party, and their concerns must not be ignored,” he stated. “We are calling on the Finance Minister to act now and ensure fair distribution of opportunities across ministries.”

According to him, the message from the grassroots is clear: they will no longer remain silent or accept being overlooked. “Enough is enough,” he declared.

He further noted that appointees—including ministers, CEOs, managing directors, MMDCES, board of directors, and other appointed institutional heads—have cited a lack of financial clearance as the reason for not engaging the grassroots.

However, he clarified that grassroots members are not demanding mass recruitment into the government payroll. While a few may seek formal employment, many are willing to take up modest opportunities that provide earnings in the range of GHC 200 to GHC 500 monthly.

He therefore urged the leadership to explore alternative avenues beyond payroll jobs and create accessible opportunities for grassroots supporters.

Isaac Anane M. K. Gracious concluded with a strong caution: if the concerns of the grassroots continue to be ignored, they will be left with no option but to stage protests—even if it means demonstrating against their own government.
